In a significant move to combat climate change and support the Union Government’s mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Andhra Pradesh has adopted a comprehensive Five-Point Climate Strategy aimed at enhancing environmental resilience, reducing carbon emissions, and achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The initiative reflects Andhra Pradesh Government's commitment to become a role model State in clean energy transition and climate mitigation.

Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand announced the strategy following a high-level meeting with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power (MoP).

The Five-Point Strategy Includes: Aggressive implementation of energy efficiency (EE) in collaboration with BEE, Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), and Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL), the State will scale up EE adoption across key sectors to reduce energy bills and improve power quality.

Andhra Pradesh aims to attract Rs.8,000 crore in EE investments by FY 2031, contributing significantly to the national climate action goals, as energy efficiency alone accounts for 40% of emission reduction potential.

It also plans for accelerated renewable energy deployment under the Integrated Clean Energy Policy (ICEP) 2024. The government is targeting the creation of a robust renewable energy ecosystem capable of generating 78 GW of solar power and 35 GW of wind power, making AP a hub for green power generation.

As part of massive afforestation drive a

Statewide campaign is underway to plant one crore saplings in a single day and 5.58 crore saplings over the next year, with the long-term goal of increasing the State’s green cover from 30% to 50% by 2047.

Adoption of global best practices in energy efficiency and Statewide awareness and student engagement campaign are the other thrust areas.

Through the AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), the government will launch mass awareness programs involving all key departments, academic institutions, and private/public stakeholders. Special focus will be placed on student participation via the creation of energy cubs in schools and colleges, recognizing youth as critical agents of change, according to BEE’s Southern India Media Adviser A. Chandrasekhar Reddy.

Reddy called on Chief Secretary Vijayanand to discuss top-level feedback and strategies from Southern States of Kerala , Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and UTs.
